Since launching Baboodle two years ago, the Babyzen Yoyo has consistently been our most in-demand travel pram. We have been out of stock on several occasions due to the sheer number of Yoyo orders we receive throughout the year.
When Stokke announced that they were launching the new, Stokke Yoyo 3 earlier this year, we were hugely excited to get our hands on one. In the interest of saving you some time, we’ve broken down how the new Yoyo3 compares to the popular Yoyo2, and explain why we have decided not to list the Yoyo3 as of yet.
Babyzen Yoyo2 vs Stokke Yoyo3 comparison
Appearance:
The Stokke Yoyo3 hasn’t changed too much in appearance from the Yoyo2. It still comes in a black, or white frame, and has the minamilst compact design that makes it so recognisable.
Weight:
Both the Yoyo2 and Yoyo3’s frame comes in at just 5.1kg. They are just about the lightest frames on the market, making them perfect for slinging over your shoulder when boarding a plane, or navigating the tube.
Folding mechanism:
As with the weight, the folding mechanism on the Yoyo3 hasn’t been upgraded from the 2-step fold on the Yoyo2. Users are still required to fold down the handle using the two white buttons, before pulling the red lever under the stroller to fold. Easy peasy.
Wheels:
In daylight, the wheels on the two strollers are identical. Both have shock absorbers on all wheels and a soft drive system on the front wheels. In terms of their feel, the wheels remain the same. However, the Yoyo3’s wheels have reflective wheel trims that really come to life after dark.
Seat and harness:
The new Yoyo3 has a perforated seat unit and backrest for increased circulation. The backrest height on the yoyo3 has increased by 2 inches. This allows for a 4th shoulder strap position and caters for slightly taller children. The maximum weight remains the same at 22kg. The harness’s shoulder pads are now mesh to allow for extra circulation, whilst the 5 point harness has also had an upgrade.
Extendable hood:
The first visible change on the stroller is the UPF50+ protective hood, offering better shelter from harmful rays. There is also a new air mesh peekaboo window on the back of the hood.
On the colour pack itself, there is now a pillow, offering your little one that extra little bit of comfort. A mesh peekaboo window can also be found on the Newborn pack.
Shopping basket:
The new Yoyo3’s shopping basket has doubled the allowable weight from 5kg to 10kg. A fairly sizeable difference!
So why haven’t we listed the Yoyo3 yet?
All of the above changes to the Yoyo3 are great, but to us, they weren’t necessary and aren’t significant enough to warrant the higher price tag. We want to provide our customers with an affordable service. By stocking the yoyo3, our customers would have had to pay more for a product that we believe is too similar to the previous model.
The previous hood on the Yoyo, was big enough to cover your childs face. The wheels act in the exact same way in daylight. The folding mechanism and weight is identical. The added mesh and breathable backrest is a nice added extra, but not an essential feature or one we’ve seen on any other travel prams. The previous 5-point harness was plenty safe enough and didn’t have any faults.
For the benefit of a slightly heavier basket allowance, we just didn’t feel the Yoyo3 justified the higher price point for our customers.
This isn’t to say we won’t list it one day, but for now we are sticking with the Yoyo2. It’s our most popular travel pram for a reason.
