For all new and expecting parents, pregnancy and parenthood is an overwhelming time. It can leave you feeling lonely and anxious, but you aren't in it alone. Up to 85% of new mum's experience the 'baby-blues', with a significant number experiencing more severe symptoms.
We've compiled a list of resources, charities, and support groups who are here to help you look after your mental wellbeing.
NHS Mental Health Helpline
24-hour advice and support for you, your partner or friend in need of help.
Mind
The leading mental health charity in England and Wales, providing support to those experiencing mental health difficulty. Mind has free access to incredible perinatal and postpartum resources.
PaNDAS Foundation
Focusing solely on prenatal and postnatal mental health issues, the foundation offers a free helpline, Whatsapp support, email support, support groups & coping workshops.
Maternal Mental Health Alliance
A UK-wide charity and network of over 120 organisations, dedicated to ensuring women and families affected by perinatal mental health problems have access to high-quality, comprehensive perinatal mental health care.
Tommy's
While primarily focused on pregnancy and baby loss, Tommy's also provides information and support for mental health issues during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
APNI (Association For Post Natal Illness)
APNI offers support for women suffering from postnatal illness. They have a helpline and a network of volunteers who have experienced postnatal depression themselves.
NCT (National Childbirth Trust)
NCT is known for its antenatal classes, but they also provide information and support related to mental health during pregnancy and early parenthood.
Pregnancy Sickness Support
Offering a free Whatsapp, helpline, community support group, peer support and counselling for those experiencing pregnancy sickness (morning sickness).
MumsAid
MumsAid is an award-winning charity providing pregnant women and new mums with specialist counselling for emotional or mental health difficulties.
Home Start
Home-Start is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support helping families with young children through their challenging times.
